Summary
The Credit Relationship Officer is responsible for sourcing, developing and maintaining customer relationships while driving quality credit business and ensuring effective management of the assigned loan portfolio.
The role is responsible for achieving agreed monthly business targets while maintaining a healthy loan portfolio through proper customer assessment, monitoring, timely follow-up and collections.
The CRO is expected to grow the portfolio responsibly, deliver excellent customer service and ensure that portfolio quality remains within the Company's approved risk parameters.
Responsibilities
Business Development and Loan Growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and prospective borrowers.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective customers.
- Market the Company's credit products to individuals, businesses and other eligible customers.
- Conduct customer visits and field activities to generate quality loan business.
- Achieve a minimum monthly business/disbursement target of UGX 150,000,000.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Generate referrals and identify opportunities for repeat and additional business from existing customers.
- Ensure all business generated is within the Company's approved credit policies and risk appetite.
Customer Acquisition and Relationship Management
- Build and maintain productive relationships with customers throughout the loan cycle.
- Understand customers' financial needs and recommend appropriate credit products.
- Maintain regular contact with customers and provide timely responses to their queries and concerns.
- Promote customer retention and repeat business through quality service.
- Ensure customers clearly understand loan terms, repayment obligations, fees and other applicable conditions.
Credit Appraisal and Documentation
- Conduct preliminary assessment of prospective borrowers and their credit needs.
- Collect and verify all required customer and loan documentation.
- Conduct customer and business visits where applicable.
- Undertake appropriate due diligence and assessment of the customer's repayment capacity.
- Prepare complete and accurate credit applications for submission through the approved appraisal and approval process.
- Ensure that all loan documentation is complete, accurate and compliant with Company requirements.
- Follow up approved applications through to documentation and disbursement.
Portfolio Management and Collections
- Actively monitor the assigned loan portfolio and repayment performance.
- Follow up customers before and after due dates to promote timely repayment.
- Identify early warning signs of potential delinquency and escalate them promptly.
- Undertake timely collection and recovery activities on overdue accounts.
- Maintain regular contact with customers with outstanding obligations.
- Conduct field visits and other approved recovery activities where necessary.
- Work closely with the Credit/Collections team on delinquent accounts.
- Ensure the assigned portfolio maintains PAR 30, PAR 60, PAR 90 and NPL below 5%.
- Recommend appropriate action on accounts showing signs of deterioration.
- Maintain accurate records of all customer follow-ups, commitments and collection activities.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all lending activities comply with the Company's credit policies, procedures and approval limits.
- Adhere to KYC, AML and other applicable regulatory and internal requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of customer information.
- Ensure there is no misrepresentation or manipulation of customer information or credit documentation.
- Escalate suspected fraud, irregularities, policy breaches or other risk concerns immediately.
- Maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism in all customer and business dealings.
Reporting and Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer and portfolio records.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
- Provide regular updates on sales pipeline, disbursements, collections and portfolio performance.
- Track performance against monthly business and portfolio quality targets.
- Maintain proper documentation of customer interactions, field visits and collection activities.
- Support management with accurate information for portfolio and business performance reviews.
- Ensure timely and accurate updating of work progress, client records and relevant credit information in the credit management system (LoanDisk or any other system designated by Management from time to time).
What we're looking for
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Microfinance or a related field.
- Professional qualification or training in credit, banking, microfinance or a related field is an added advantage.
- Relevant experience in credit, lending, relationship management, sales or microfinance.
- At least 5 years' relevant experience in credit, lending, microfinance, banking or financial services.
- Demonstrable experience in customer acquisition, loan appraisal, portfolio management and collections.
- Experience working against business and portfolio quality targets is highly desirable.
- Willingness and ability to work across or be transferred to different Company branches as may be required by the business from time to time.
